A problem: Joe Cole says £17M Tottenham player often looks really uncomfortable

During Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with West Ham on Tuesday night, Joe Cole pointed out that one Spurs player appeared uncomfortable on several occasions.

Once again, Ange Postecoglou’s side faced challenges, despite taking the lead through Brennan Johnson, assisted by Timo Werner’s excellent pass.

However, the teams went into halftime level after Kurt Zouma capitalized on a Jarrod Bowen corner, finding ample space inside the six-yard box to score for West Ham at the London Stadium.

Cole highlighted that one Tottenham player did not cover himself well for the goal. Yves Bissouma, initially marking Michail Antonio, moved away at a crucial moment, leaving goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario exposed.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Cole suggested that the Tottenham defense lacks confidence in Vicario’s ability to deal with dead ball situations, particularly set-pieces where they appear vulnerable.

He explained, “They’ve looked a threat from set-pieces, particularly Bowen on this side. And they’re literally crowding Vicario here. It’s a lovely ball from Bowen, and Zouma just steps off. If you watch it, Bissouma’s there protecting Vicario. And then he just neglects his duties right at the end of it, steps off. Vicario goes, he’s in no man’s land, and it just comes off Zouma’s back.”

Despite Vicario’s vulnerability in set-pieces, he has been a valuable addition to the team. His performance in open play aligns perfectly with Postecoglou’s style, showcasing confidence in possession and excellent game reading abilities.

However, Tottenham’s vulnerability during set-pieces remains a concern, as highlighted by Vicario’s involvement in West Ham’s equalizer, where he may not have been satisfied with his role.
