100% forgotten ace knocking on Postecoglou’s door for Tottenham redemption
Radu Dragusin has shown he is ready to redeem himself at Tottenham after delivering strong performances for Romania.
Playing as the right-sided centre-back, Dragusin was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes as Romania secured a 2-1 victory over Lithuania in the UEFA Nations League on October 15.
This comes just two days after he scored in Romania’s 2-0 win over Cyprus. These back-to-back displays could boost his chances of breaking into Tottenham’s starting lineup again.
So far this season, Dragusin has only managed three starts for Spurs. His chances were hindered by an unfortunate seventh-minute red card in Tottenham’s 3-0 Europa League win against Qarabag on September 26. However, his recent international form suggests he is eager to turn things around and make his mark at the club.
Dragusin’s performances for Romania were impressive. According to FotMob, he won six duels in the match against Lithuania, split between two ground duels and four aerial challenges, all with a 100% success rate—a feat unmatched by any other player in that game.
In addition, Dragusin contributed five ball recoveries, three clearances, and one block. These defensive efforts were complemented by his involvement in Romania’s build-up play, registering 52 touches and completing 27 out of 43 passes. Notably, seven of those passes were into the final third, with a 63% accuracy rate.
Dragusin also showed a willingness to contribute offensively, attempting 10 long balls during the match—more than any other outfield player except one. Although only two of these long passes were successful, his intent to push forward and support attacks was clear.
Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s manager, has likely taken note of Dragusin’s impressive international performances as Spurs prepare for their upcoming match against West Ham on October 19.
Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero currently occupy the first-choice centre-back positions for Postecoglou, but Dragusin’s recent displays suggest he is determined to earn his spot in the team.
With his strong aerial presence, defensive contributions, and clear desire to play a role in building attacks, Dragusin could soon force his way back into contention for more regular game time at Tottenham.
Dragusin’s performances for Romania have shown his potential, and with Postecoglou known for giving players a fair chance to prove themselves, the 22-year-old may have an opportunity to reclaim his place in the Spurs lineup.
As Tottenham navigate a demanding season, having a reliable and versatile defender like Dragusin could be invaluable to their campaign.
